Expert Q & A

I seem to get lost when searching the Internet and I want to avoid ending up on a dangerous or offensive site. How can I conduct streamlined searches and get the information I want faster?

Search engines are always increasing the accuracy of search results, but you still need to pay attention to the keywords you're typing in. Be as specific as possible. For example, type in "movie theaters in Atlanta, Georgia" instead of "movies in Georgia" to narrow your results. Also, put essential words or phrases in quotes.

Most sites offer an Advanced Search option, too. On Google, for instance, you can select "Find pages similar to the page..." so you can look for sites in the same category as those you like.

And here's another trick. You can search for information on a specific web site via Google or Yahoo by typing [site:NameofWebSite.com] and a keyword. Here's an example: site:WebMD headaches.
