Is it safe to do conference calls through the web?

As more computers come equipped with web-based cameras and more companies offer to host web conferences for business or telecommuters, the popularity of web conferencing will increase. There are potential security risks that uninvited guests may access your call. Here are some security precautions to take for safe web conferences: use passwords to protect your virtual conference room, don't send passwords through email, use video so that you see all participants, and ask your web conference provider whether they are using encryption -- or data scrambling -- to protect the transmissions.
