Expert Q&A
Every time I shop on Amazon.com, the site offers 1-Click ordering, which saves and recalls my info automatically. Is it safe?
Amazon’s 1-Click ordering simplifies and speeds up online shopping by letting you skip the standard shopping cart process. On the one hand, using the 1-Click ordering option is just as safe as filling out information manually in the shopping basket. This Amazon feature simply remembers your preferred payment method and shipping address whenever you click the “Buy” tab, instead of asking you to enter the information every time you purchase something on Amazon.com.
On the flipside, because 1-Click remembers your information after you buy something once, it’s critical to log out of your Amazon account when you’re done shopping -- especially on a shared computer such as a family computer. (Remember, it’s never a good idea to shop on a public computer, such as one at an airport lounge or a school library, as you’re more at risk from tech-savvy thieves.)
Also, if you use 1-Click, be sure you select the right address. If you use more than one shipping address, all addresses will appear beneath the “Buy now” tab.
If you prefer to turn off 1-Click ordering, click “Your Account” on the top right-hand side of any page and select “1-Click Settings” to make the changes.
